Three stages

How it works

  1. Tell us about your home

Choose the job, add your postcode and say what heats your home now. A few details about the property help the installer prepare.

  2. We check who covers you

With your consent, we pass your enquiry to a local heat pump installer, if one covers your postcode. If nobody does, we tell you.

  3. The installer gets in touch

They talk through your plans and explain what a survey involves. Any quote is agreed with them directly, and you can say no.

An outdoor unit needs clear space around it so air can move freely through the fan.

Useful to know before you enquire

Useful to have to hand

None of this is needed to send an enquiry, but it helps the installer understand your home sooner.

  • How the home is heated now

Gas, oil, LPG or electric, and roughly how old the current system is.

  • The house itself

Its age and type, the number of bedrooms and any extensions. An Energy Performance Certificate, if you have one, gives a useful picture.

  • Insulation you know about

Loft and wall insulation and the kind of windows all affect how much heat the home needs.

  • Room outside for the unit

A patch of ground or wall with clear space around it for air to move, ideally close to where pipes can enter the house.

  • Hot water

Whether you have a hot water cylinder now. Most heat pump systems store hot water in one, so it helps to know where it could go.

  • If you already have a heat pump

The make and model from the label on the outdoor unit, and any error code showing on the controller.

Before you enquire

Questions

Is Herts Heat Pump Help a heat pump company?

No. It is an independent enquiry service. We do not survey, install or service heat pumps. With your consent, we pass your enquiry to one local heat pump installer if one covers your postcode, and they deal with you directly.

What if nobody covers my postcode?

We tell you, and we do not pass your details on to anyone.

Does it cost anything to send an enquiry?

No. Enquiring is free and commits you to nothing. If you go ahead, the price and the work are agreed between you and the installer.

Will my details go to several companies?

No. Your enquiry goes to one installer, and only after you have agreed to that on the form.

How do I know my home is suitable for a heat pump?

Nobody can tell from a form. Suitability depends on how much heat your home loses, what radiators and hot water storage you have, and where an outdoor unit could go. A survey by the installer answers those questions.

Can you tell me about grants?

Support schemes change, so we do not quote figures. Check the current [Boiler Upgrade Scheme on gov.uk](https://www.gov.uk/apply-boiler-upgrade-scheme), and ask any installer how it applies to your home.
